Up to 3,000 people are estimated dead and many more are missing after Storm Daniel lashed eastern Libya. Many towns have been hit by the floods, but the worst destruction was in Derna city in eastern Libya, where heavy rainfall and floods broke the dams and washed away entire neighbourhoods.
In light of this unprecedented disaster, the Council of European Muslims:
– Mourns the victims who were proclaimed dead during the disaster and wishes a speedy recovery for the wounded.
– Extends condolences to the victims of the storm and to the Libyan people.
– Calls on relief and Islamic bodies in Europe to contribute to the relief areas of the stricken areas in Libya.
